Eyvind Earle

I have just discovered this artist who is unfortunately dead now but whose life and work were so totally impressive.

He was a well known background artist for the Disney Studios and his work can mostly be seen into the Sleeping Beauty movie. Thanks to the dvd I had for Christmas I could discover him through the features and really appreciate his work as well as his technique.

You can visit his gallery there or here .

Some samples of his illustrations :

and here’s what I did taking the Yosemite one as model :

  1. God, I love that green tree/water picture so much. It’s so beautiful.

I like your take on his trees as well. Saw it on dA a while ago and was admiring how textured and substantial it looked. Impressive. ;)

  2. This one is a very japanese one so I guess no wonder that you like it so much hehe.

and thanks a lot for the comment, I didn’t have the model with me when I painted mine so I had to work from memory but I also wanted to do ‘my’ painting and not copy his work, just his style. I hope I achieved it. Glad you liked it. ;)

  3. Gosh,
I absolutely love, for my own part, the bottom Yosemite painting. It has a dreamy quality to it, very seldom achieved in sharply delimited paintings (maybe it’s fuzzier on the original, like always when you have a close look at paintings, but hey…).

The mauve floral and Fire Red and Gold are amazing (they all are). In the latter, I’m especially impressed by the number of colours combined, in such an elegant composition.

    Added to my bookmarks :+)

  4. Thanks a lot for your comment Oghme, it seems like you know what you’re talking about, hehe. very nice website of yours! :D
I’m glad my ‘little’ blog post was helpful to someone in the end.
