In the end, here we are.

•janvier 12, 2009 • 2 commentaires

I’ve come to a conclusion this morning.

I’ve no genius. I’m the Salieri in the Mozart movie. I’m the shadow in the dark, I’m forever to be unknown. I’m no genius, I have some talent but that’s all. It’s a big disappointment to me, I thought I had something more, but I’m afraid I’m not, artistically speaking.

Now to live with that. This is the end of my artistic crisis.

Sighs.

I have just discovered this artist who is unfortunately dead now but whose life and work were so totally impressive.

He was a well known background artist for the Disney Studios and his work can mostly be seen into the Sleeping Beauty movie. Thanks to the dvd I had for Christmas I could discover him through the features and really appreciate his work as well as his technique.

You can visit his gallery there or here .

Some samples of his illustrations :

and here’s what I did taking the Yosemite one as model :

Old books

•décembre 10, 2008 • 2 commentaires

I went to Geneva yesterday and found two interesting old books.

The first one is a french book, a collection of journals in which great authors like Chateaubriand, Théophile Gauthier or Alphonse Daudet have contributed, it’s called ‘Les Heures Littéraires’ and is from 1913. I’m pretty sure it’s a first edition.

The second book is A Journey Into the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne, there’s no date on it, but it has been printed by Ward Lock and Co. Limited, Great Britain.  Some sources on the net date it circa end of 1800 (1890 or 1876) or circa 1930s.

Here are some pictures.

Be good at Christmas

oh my. WordPress has changed.

Looks like it will probably be easier now to navigate or try to do things with it.

I’m so glad it’s finally Sunday. And there is sun and blue sky and light outside. And I saw a rainbow yesterday.
Work sucks. and it’s not getting better with Christmas and the holidays that are coming. But it’s like that every year. Seems like people really get mad at Christmas time. Are they afraid of something? I don’t know. Just like, not to have presents because they’ve been behaving badly all year? Possibly. It’s exhausting.

Anyway, I finished two more cards and drawn plenty others. They don’t really come out very well. Not as much as I would want to. But I’m still trying. (oh and no scan this time, I’m too lazy).

I’ve just watched Dragon Hunters last night and god, that was awesome. One of the best animated movies I saw so far. (and I’m not saying that because it’s french made, lol). I’m now gonna watch Spiderwick, I really don’t know what to give my sister for Christmas. :( Dragon Hunters was out of stock.
